Earlier this week I saw an article about how lots of brands are bringing back the catalog as a form of advertising and engaging with consumers.
It seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce something here that I’d been planning to for awhile. Late last year I acquired 3 vintage Montgomery Ward catalogs, and I am going to start scanning them to preserve them and share them here, and probably on Tumblr, too.
If people are interested, I have access to more, too. It will take us awhile to get through these though, even though I plan to show mainly the highlights, they’re all over 1,000 pages! These are from the 1940s and 1950s. I chose Fall/Winter catalogs because I find the clothing more interesting.
They’re an amazing time capsule of what the average American was buying at the time, and the illustrations and photography are super fun to see!
I’m looking forward to scanning and sharing with everyone! Look for a weekly post series starting in the next week!
